Another way to shape invisibly is to work decreases simultaneously with the cable crossings, as shown in the chart in Figure 5 and the accompanying swatch (see page 79). On each cable cross, one stitch is decreased from the group of stitches that fall behind the crossing stitches. For example, on Row 6, two 4/4 cables (eight stitches each) are worked in sequence. On Row 12, one stitch in the group that is held in back of each cable is decreased to result in seven stitches in each cable. On Row 18, one stitch is again decreased to form 3/3 cables (six stitches each). The look of the cables is preserved throughout the series of decreases. This is a good strategy to use for the crown of a hat or yoke of a sweater worked from the bottom up.
